LaSalle Council Receives $7,000 Grant from Michigan Gateway Community Foundation to Expand Scouting Opportunities
BUCHANAN, MI — March 16, 2026 — The Michigan Gateway Community Foundation has awarded the LaSalle Council of Scouting America a $7,000 grant in support of youth leadership development and Scouting programs serving southern Berrien and Cass Counties.
The grant will support three key areas: helping offset registration fees for new Scouts, providing Scout handbooks to equip Scouts for their journey, and funding campership assistance so that more youth can enjoy learning experiences through the Scouting America’s outdoor programs.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation for this investment in our youth,” said James Hulgan, CEO of the LaSalle Council, Scouting America. “Scouting builds character, leadership, and resilience — and this grant ensures that financial barriers do not stand in the way of a young person’s opportunity to be part of something meaningful.”
This grant reflects the Michigan Gateway Community Foundation’s dedication to supporting organizations that make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.
“The LaSalle Council remains committed to growing Scouting and expanding access to leadership development programs for youth across southern Berrien and Cass Counties, ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to discover their potential,” said Bob Bycraft, Council Board President.
Families interested in enrolling their child in Scouting or learning more about available assistance are encouraged to contact the LaSalle Council at (574) 289-0337 or visit www.LaSalleCouncil.org.
