Become a Merit Badge Counselor
A Merit Badge Counselor (MBC) is more than just a signature on a blue card; you are a mentor, an industry expert, and a guide who bridges the gap between a Scout’s curiosity and real-world mastery. By stepping into this role, you volunteer your unique skills—whether in a professional field like Engineering or Law, or a life-long hobby like Woodworking or Hiking—to help Scouts explore over 135 different subjects. For a leader, becoming a counselor is one of the most impactful ways to serve: it offers a flexible time commitment that fits your schedule while allowing you to directly shape a Scout’s path toward the Eagle rank. You aren’t just teaching a requirement; you are sparking a passion that could define a young person’s future career or character. Join our Council’s network of experts and help the next generation of leaders discover what they are truly capable of achieving.
Before any leader can be added as a merit badge counselor, they must complete and maintain current Safeguarding Youth Training. This training takes approximately 90 minutes.
