SUMMARY:Cub Scout Boating Introduction
DESCRIPTION:This program will introduce basic boating concepts to Scouts at the Cub level and provide an opportunity to work in a small group to practice the skills they are learning. We’ll start off with basic boating safety and equipment overview and then move to the water for 90 minutes of safe skills practice and fun paddling. \nIdeal for those who have never been in a canoe before\, each Scout will be paired with their Parent/Guardian to help create fond memories. We’ll run 4 sessions throughout the day\, each session being 2 hours long (see session example below) For activity afloat\, those not classified as a swimmer (not having passed the BSA Swimmer’s Test in the last calendar year) may paddle or ride in a canoe or other paddle craft with an adult swimmer skilled in that craft as a buddy. If the adult accompanying the Scout for this event has also not passed the BSA Swimmer’s Test\, they will need to do so in advance of the event. Additional information will be sent to registrants. \nGathering Location: Stone Lake Beach\, LaPorte\nCost: $10 per registration pair (Scout and Parent/Guardian) \nSession Schedule \nPlease Bring completed Health Forms AB

SUMMARY:Boating Merit Badges Day
DESCRIPTION:Audience and Cost:\nRegister for a day of boating at Camp Tamarack to either start a new merit badge\, or to hopefully complete a previously started partial. Scouts BSA youth members will be able to chose (at the time of registration) to work on Kayaking\, Canoeing\, or Rowing. The cost for this event will be $5.00 for Scouts completing a previous partial merit badge\, and $10.00 for Scouts who are starting a brand new merit badge. \nPurpose:\nBoating merit badges\, when offered during Summer Camp\, limits the opportunity of some youth to participate\, especially for those who do not already have their own watercraft. Weather related events can also adversely affect a Scout’s ability to complete a badge. This event provides an additional opportunity to leverage the Wood Lake waterfront through engagement and youth advancement. \nItinerary:\nProvided below more fully in the resources section\, the day will be broken into two phases: an early start for those beginning a brand new badge\, and a second session for those just needing to complete a previously started partial.\nClick here to download itinerary.

SUMMARY:World Scout Scarf Day
DESCRIPTION:August 1st is World Scout Scarf Day\nIt is a day to celebrate the unity and spirit of Scouting around the world. Scouts are encouraged to wear their neckerchiefs (or scarves) with pride\, symbolizing their connection to the global Scouting movement. The day commemorates the first Brownsea Island Scout camp in 1907. \nIn addition to being World Scout Scarf Day\, August 1st also marks the anniversary of the conversion of Exploring Posts to Venturing Crews in 1998. This means it’s also recognized as the birthday of Venturing\, an arm of Scouting in the United States. \nHow do we celebrate in LaSalle Council?\n– Wear your neckerchief!\n– Share photos on social media (using hashtags like #WorldScoutScarfDay and #LaSalleCouncil).\n– Participate in Scouting activities.\n– You can also download our 2025 World Scout Scarf Day Certificate (PDF) to commemorate your participation.
